The Kaon
Symbol: κ Group: boson, hadron, meson Rest mass: 0.530 u Diameter: 0.7 x 10-15 m Charge: -1, 0, +1 Mean lifetime: 1.2 x 10-8 sec Spin: 0 |
Kaons are particles made of an up and an anti- strange (κ+) or an antiup and a strange quark (κ-) or the same with down instead of up (κ0). The mass given to the left is only for the first two, the κ0 is slightly heavier. The kaon is the lightest particle with a strangeness. Kaons evolve by cosmic radiation in the upper layers of the atmosphere of Earth. |
