Hadrons
Hadrons are particles which are subject to the strong interaction. They consist of quarks, that are kept together by gluons, the carriers of this stongest of the fundamental interactions. Hadrons have sizes of about 10-15 meters. Apart from the proton and, if bound, the neutron, all hadrons are unstable with lifetimes of less than 3 x 10-8 seconds. Amongst these, the pion also is of a high importance for our matter.
